In these days when the cold runs deep in many cities and towns in Spain, it is difficult to think about growing new plants and vegetables. But if you feel like trying despite everything it is best to sow in seedbeds so that then the seeds and seedlings have a warm habitat and pleasant where to develop.
In winter days it is not enough to have a receptacle in which to place the soil but it is also necessary to create the perfect environment for the seeds to grow heat the seedlings in some way so that they have the temperature that the seeds need for their development.
There are two alternatives in these cases: protected seedlings or hot bed seedlings.
Protected seedbeds
It is the simplest option for growing new plants as it is about cover the seedbeds with some protection to isolate them from cold and frost. They are usually covered with plastic, although many use crystals.
Care must be taken to cover the entire seedbed very well but also to allow the plants to receive natural light on sunny days. Those days will have to remove the protection.
Hot bed seedlings
This method is more complex but very natural and there is its advantage. In the case of hot bed seedlings a warm climate is created from manure.
There will be fill the seedbed with manure and then with a layer of compost. After watering, it is time to sow the seeds that will develop in a warm habitat thanks to the heat generated by the manure. Finally, the seedbed will have to be protected with plastic or glass.
