Simian Dracula Orchid

Simian Dracula Orchid

You have monkey face, vampire fangs and a peculiar orange aroma ... It is the Simian dracula, an orchid with which Nature surprises us again.

These unique flowers come from southeastern Ecuador and the Peruvian forests, where they bloom throughout the year at elevations of 2.000 meters.

Discovered in 1978 by the botanist Luer, its scientific name is Dracula Simia. Dracula for the two long spurs on the sepals, which recall the fangs of the most famous vampire. And Simia, for the little monkey face that appears inside.

Each flower is different, they do not all have the same image and it has more than 120 species, which offer a great variety of colors and sizes: from the smallest that require a magnifying glass to observe them to those of 20 cm. wide.

Hello!! Do you happen to know where I can get one of these? Because I've been behind it for centuries… I found one on a German page, but when I went to buy it they no longer had any left…. All the best!

Hi Sofi, the truth is that I have no idea. As a result of your question, I have come to this page of Ecuador where they have it, but I have no reference to it: http://www.mundiflora.com/galeria-dracula
      Luck!

      Hi Sandy.

You may find it in a specialist orchid nursery, but I can't tell you which one. I am sorry.

      Greetings.

hello I would like to know if anyone knows how to germinate the seed of this orchid! I have bought some seeds online but I have no idea how to make them germinate, so if you can help me I would appreciate it

    Hey.
Sandy: this type of orchids being exotic, you may find them in specialized nurseries or online.
Yuliana: I'm sorry to disappoint you but orchid seeds are very difficult to germinate, unless they are grown in vitro 🙁. Still, hope is the last thing you lose, and in fact you can try doing the following: buy orchid substrate and fill a plastic container (type tupperware), then put it in the microwave on full power for a minute. Repeat this action two more times. Then sow the seeds and water. Good luck!!
    Happy weekend!

The ones I ordered from alisexpress have just arrived. What I'm looking for is how to plant them. If anyone knows?

      Hi Yol.
You can sow them directly in a pot with a universal growing medium mixed with 30% perlite or washed river sand (or similar). Put them near a heat source, and wait.
      Good luck.
