Our protagonist is an evergreen shrub plant endemic to Macaronesia. Its scientific name is Jasminum odoratissimum, although it is known as odorous jasmine or wild jasmine. Reaches a height of 4 meters, and has pinnate, alternate, triangular and dark green leaves. The flowers, which appear from winter to spring, are yellow, fragrant, and about 2cm tall. After flowering, the fruits, which are elongated dark berries, begin to ripen.

Its growth rate is quite fast if the growing conditions are adequate.. In addition, it can be had in a pot if you prefer.

If you want to have a specimen of fragrant jasmine, we recommend giving it the following care:

  • Location: outside, in full sun or partial shade.
  • Earth:
    • Pot: universal growing substrate mixed with 30% perlite.
    • Garden: light, fertile, with good drainage.
  • Irrigation: it has to be watered 3-4 times a week in summer, somewhat less the rest of the year.
  • Subscriber: from early spring to late summer with ecological fertilizers, once a month. If it is grown in a pot, liquid fertilizers must be used.
  • Multiplication: by seeds or cuttings in spring
  • Pruning: At the end of winter sick, dry or weak stems must be removed. The rest of the year you can cut those that are growing too much.
  • Planting or transplanting time: in spring. Transplant every two years.
  • Rusticity: does not support frost. Protect at home if the temperature drops below 0 degrees.
