Caring for your indoor plants in winter

Trunk of Brazil

The care of the inside plants in winter they are not as many as the rest of the year. Still, they are equally or more important, since the cold factor together with high humidity can cause the plants to be seriously affected by opportunistic fungi and / or insects that will not hesitate to damage the plant if they get some food.

That is why we will give you a series of tips so that your indoor plants remain healthy and strong, and can arrive in spring as beautiful as always.

Humidity

Spatiphilian

Humidity is very important for indoor plants, since they are plants of tropical origin that live in jungles where rainfall and humidity are always high in those places.

However, in winter you have to control the waterings well. Remember that it is easier to lose a plant due to excess water than by default. A trick that usually never fails is the following: insert a toothpick into the pot, and if when you remove it you see that a lot of substrate has adhered to it, then it means that it does not need to be watered. And if, on the contrary, it comes out practically clean, then yes you should water abundantly.

Another important issue is that of sprays. When to spray? It will depend a lot on how dry the room is where the plant is; That is, if we put the heating on or live in an already very dry climate, it will need periodic sprays.

But if we want to avoid spraying it, we can do the following: place several glasses of water around the plant, or even put several plants together.

Location

Nidularium

Just as important as humidity is choosing a good location. Indoor plants in general should be away from drafts, and in a room where they receive a lot of natural light (except those that can live in darker places, such as Phalaenopsis, Calateas, Aspidistras).

Finally, from time to time we must clean the leaves with distilled water to remove dust so they can photosynthesize without problems.
