The importance of planting trees

The trunk of an old tree

Trees are the most amazing plants in the world. Each of them over time becomes an ecosystem unto itself, allowing the seeds of many other plant beings to germinate between the gaps in its trunk and branches, and providing much-needed shade and moisture.

They are an important source of life, not only for forests, but also for the rest of the living beings that inhabit this planet, but why? What is the importance of planting trees?

Shade tree in a garden

There are an estimated 3 billion trees in the world. They may seem like a lot, but we have to bear in mind that every human being needs the oxygen released by 4 specimens. There are currently about 7 million people on the globe, and many of them are dedicated to deforesting, which could put all of us who live here at risk, since 15,3 billion trees are cut down per year.

There are those who go to a forest and only see wood for the fire, but these plants are much more than wood. With their roots, they fix the soil preventing it from eroding; the fruits of many of them are edible, both for us and for birds and other animals, and thanks to the water vapor released by its leaves maintain a stable temperature. To all these amazing qualities we have to add another that is also very important: carbon storage. Due to all this, the effects of global warming can be counteracted.

Trees in a park

Trees beautify the landscape, but also our own life. If a third of the Earth were covered with forests, the most certain thing is that the problems would diminish, or maybe even disappear, as Yann Arthus Bertrand said in "The Earth seen from the sky." Therefore, whenever possible it is highly recommended that you plant one, in your garden, in your patio or in a forest.

In this way you will contribute to taking care of life on Earth.
