Tips and tricks for a healthy garden

White flowers in a garden

Having a healthy and beautiful garden is what every gardener would like to have. Being able to enjoy the healthy leaves of the plants, the beauty of the flowers and the tranquility that is breathed in it, is a wonderful luxury that anyone can achieve. That is why being in this particular paradise becomes an amazing experience.

But plants, like other living things, can get sick from time to time. If you want to avoid it, we offer you a series of tips and tricks to have a healthy garden.

Homemade fertilizers

Wood ash compost

Surely at home you are very used to throwing things that can be very useful for plants. And these are just some of them:

  • Wood ash: they are an important source of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and calcium. Sprinkle it around the plants and you'll see how they grow.
  • Powdered gelatin: contains nitrogen, an essential nutrient for garden growth. Scoop a small spoonful at the foot of the plants every two weeks.
  • Banana skins: they are very rich in potassium, another essential nutrient for plants. You can simply place them on the surface of the ground or bury them a bit.
  • Eggshells: they are composed of 93% calcium carbonate, a very important nutrient for the health of the soil that you can crush and pour on the surface, or mix it with the earth.
  • Coffee grounds: they contain nitrogen, so it is highly recommended to pour them at the foot of the plants.

Insecticides to protect plants

Garlic, perfect for keeping pests away.

Before using chemicals, it is worth trying some natural insecticides, such as:

  • Garlic: 3 garlic must be left in 1 liter of water for 24 hours in a partially covered container. The next day, the area to be treated is strained and sprayed twice a day for a week. Thus, you will keep the plants free of aphids, mites and bacteria.
  • Buy: pass a fine brush directly on the plant, and you will eliminate the mealybugs.
  • Onion: cut two large onions and leave them to marinate in two liters of water for 4 days. Then, strain them and spray the plants to be treated twice a day to eliminate the spider mite, whitefly and aphid.
  • Ladybugs: they are the natural enemy of aphids. Get some and in no time there will be no aphids left.

Natural fungicides

Cinnamon

There are a wide variety of fungi that can seriously affect plants. To prevent it, you can use:

  • Copper or sulfur: any of them acts as an excellent fungicide. Sprinkle around the plants in spring and fall, once every 15 days. It can also be thrown in seedbeds.
  • Cinnamon: you just have to sprinkle it on the ground. Thus, in addition, you will help the roots to develop better.

Eliminate herbs effortlessly

Apple vinager

Wild herbs can cause many problems for plants, and they can also aggravate them if we have domestic animals, since parasites such as fleas hide between the stems, under the pruning debris, etc., which makes it very difficult to eliminate the pest . For this, we recommend:

  • Boiling water: it is the best and most natural thing there is, since it also serves to eliminate pests. Put a pot with water and heat it to the boiling point; then you just have to pour it (very carefully!) over the herbs you want to remove. You should never throw it near the plants that make up the garden, as they could die instantly.
  • Vinegar: The acetic acid in vinegar kills the leaves of the plants, but not the roots, so it is only advisable to use it to eliminate young herbs. You can apply it with a spray or watering can.
  • Sal Island: salt dehydrates everything. Put some at the base of the plant that you don't want to have, and it will soon dry out.
  • Diary paperPlants need light to germinate and grow, but they won't be able to do it if they have newspaper on them. We recommend using biodegradable papers, since they can be buried and, as they decompose, they will serve as compost for the soil.

With all these tips and tricks, you can have a perfectly healthy garden 😉.
