Many, if not all, plants in their natural habitat establish symbiotic relationships with other plants or with other organisms. Thanks to this link, they can grow better or, on the contrary, have some difficulty in absorbing, for example, all the nutrients they need. One of those microorganisms are trichodermas.

These are opportunistic fungi, that is, they generate relationships with the root system of plants to obtain their own benefit in exchange for returning a positive effect to the plant. But, What function do they have?

Trichodermas or trichodermas are genera belonging to the Ascomyceto division that live in soils whose presence of organic matter is greater than 2%. This means that the vast majority of arable soils do not have these fungi, either due to erosion or the use of toxic chemicals.

As we mentioned, these microorganisms are opportunistic. What's more, they feed on other fungi, so they are very interesting for plants.

What functions do they have?

Trichodermas have different functions in plants, Which are the following:

  • Increase the resistance of the leaves against pathogenic fungi.
  • Parasitizes and eliminates fungi, destroying their cell wall through enzymes and antibiotics that are excreted into the environment.
  • They generate resistant soils against pathogenic fungi.
  • Indirectly, they stimulate the root system. Thus, they can assimilate more and better the nutrients.

When and in what doses are they applied?

These beneficial plant fungi can be used in any crop, and can be applied at any time but it is especially recommended to do it during the first days or up to 15 days after having transplanted them.

The general dose is 2-3m3 per hectare through the fertigation system, but it will be necessary to read the product packaging to know the exact amount to add.
