Maple trees are trees, rarely shrubs or saplings, that for a long time and still are planted mainly in large gardens, since there are many species that not only reach impressive heights, but also develop very wide and leafy crowns.

But one of the many good things they have is that they can be pruned regularly, as long as the life cycles of each specimen are respected, and avoiding drastic pruning. So let's see what types of maples are the most recommended to grow.

Acer buergerianum

Known as trident mapleIt is a deciduous tree that grows in Japan, China and Taiwan. It grows up to 10-12 meters high, and develops a crown about 3 meters wide. The leaves are trilobed, green except in autumn when they turn reddish. Resists up to -20ºC.

It is known as minor maple or country maple, and is a deciduous tree native to Europe and western Asia. It grows up to 10 meters in height, and develops a 3-4 meter crown with palm-shaped leaves, glaucous green on the upper side and somewhat tomentose on the underside that in autumn they turn yellow. It resists frosts down to -20ºC.

acer x freemanii

It is a hybrid between the Acer and Acer saccharinum. It is a tree that grows up to 10 meters in height, and has a narrow crown. The leaves are green, but turn red in autumn before they fall. Resists up to -20ºC.

Acer tataricum subsp. ginala

This is the paper maple, or gray Chinese maple. It is native to China, and stands a maximum of 18 meters tall. It has a beautiful reddish bark and leaves made up of three leaflets, dark green on the upper surface and glaucous bluish-green on the underside.
