Types of water to water plants

Hose

Although at first glance it seems to all of us that it is the same, the reality is that there are different types of water to water the plants. There are some that are better than others; one that is more acidic, another that is more chalky… When you start to research on the subject, you realize that choosing the most appropriate one is sometimes not as easy as it seems.

If you want to know which is the best to water, then I'll tell you 🙂.

Rain water

Rainwater is ideal, as long as it is not acidic (which is what can be found in highly polluted areas). It contains very important minerals, such as manganese, sulfur, calcium or titanium, among others that may have carried the wind from the ground into the atmosphere in the form of suspended dust. Also, as its pH is neutral, it is suitable for watering all kinds of plants.

Distilled water

It is a type of water that does not contain any minerals, so it is of no use to plants except to moisten the earth. For this reason, it is only used to water carnivores, since by feeding on insects they cover their nutrient needs. It can also be used to clean the sheets.

Tap water

It will depend on the area where we live. At first, if it rains a lot, it will be water very, very similar to rain, with normal amounts of minerals; otherwise, it usually has a lot of calcium, chlorine and sodium, which "harden" it. The pH, therefore, varies, so I advise to measure it before using it for watering.

Water from swamps, reservoirs, natural wells ...

All of these are very similar. They usually have a pH of 7 to 8, but it must be analyzed before using it for watering. Whenever we have the opportunity to have water from a volcanic or granitic terrain, the better since we will obtain a purer and more suitable liquid for plants.

Mineral water

It is the one they sell packaged. There are many types too: some have a higher concentration of salts than others. However, it is very interesting to use as irrigation water, except for its price, of course. The pH is around 7, and if it has little sodium they will grow luxurious.
