Irrigation in winter

Watering can

The temperatures are getting lower and lower, and our beautiful garden seems to be falling asleep. Indoor plants also begin to stunt their growth, as their last flowers of the year wither and fall. Winter is the season when a gardener has less work, since there are no pests (except snails and slugs in humid climates and / or in the rainy season). But this does not mean that you have to stop watering.

El watering in winter It is surely the most complicated, because if we water a tropical plant with water that is too cold, its roots can suffer a lot. Therefore, I am going to give you a series of tips to water at the right time and with the ideal temperature so that your plants can "wake up" in spring without problems.

Indoor or tropical plants

Monstera

All the inside plants or the tropical plants that are kept in a greenhouse are some of the most delicate, since they do not resist the cold. Their growth stops in late summer or early autumn depending on the climate (the colder it is, the sooner it stops growing), and when the temperature begins to touch 10 degrees it is convenient to protect them at home and / or in greenhouses.

To water these plants, it is advisable to do so on sunny days, in the middle of the day, with warm water. If there is no forecast of sun and our plants need water, we will simply warm the water a little. It is important to allow the substrate to dry almost completely before watering again, otherwise the roots could rot.

Bonsai

Bonsai

El Indoor bonsai It will be watered the same as indoor plants, but more frequently, as it has a much smaller layer of substrate and it is not advisable to let it dry out.

In the case of Outdoor bonsai, although they can resist the cold without problems, yes that it is advisable not to water with water that is too cold, because we could seriously damage the tree.

Lastly, remember that in this station it is not necessary to pay. The fertilizer calendar will resume in spring, when temperatures wake up to our plants.
