What are the characteristics of the medlar leaf?

Loquat leaves

Have you ever stopped to look at medlar leaves? The truth is that when you go to buy a fruit tree, you think more about the fruit than about the leaves, but the truth is that it is interesting to look at them too, because each species has its characteristics. Each of them has a shape, a color, a texture that differentiates it from the others.

In the case of the medlar, its foliage It is really impressive. In fact, it has a very, very high ornamental value since it is also a tree that remains evergreen. Let's see why I say this.

Loquat it is an evergreen fruit tree that reaches about 10 meters in height. It has a rounded crown, with a short gray bark trunk that measures 30-35cm in diameter. Once it reaches adulthood, the flowers sprout every autumn-winter, grouping in multiflower panicles 10 to 19 cm long. And the fruit is a pyriform pommel measuring 3 to 6cm x 1,5 to 5cm, with a yellowish skin and a succulent pulp with a sweet, subacid flavor.

But once the flowering and fruiting season is over… what is left? The sheet. The leaf as we have said is perennial. This does not mean that it never falls, but that it falls little by little, throughout the year. In addition, when measuring 10 to 30 cm in length by 5 to 10 cm in width and being simple, with a leathery upper surface, of a beautiful dark green color, and with a dense pubescence on the underside, gives very good shade all year round.

Medlar

And that's not to mention that its appearance gives a tropical touch to the gardens. All the characteristics of the medlar are very interesting; What's more, it can be grown in large pots as long as it is fertilized from spring to summer with organic fertilizers such as guano (you can get it here), since its roots are not invasive.

To plant in a pot, what size-minimum capacity should the pot have so that it can bear edible fruit even if the tree does not grow much

      Hello Ariel.

The bigger the better. Ideally, the pot should be at least 50 centimeters in diameter.

      Regards!
