In all gardens, even those that are very small, we can always find different areas. Regardless of whether they have any use such as lounging or bathing in the pool, or simply contemplating different plants, each paradise has its sections. For example, in mine with an area of about 200 square meters, we find two very different areas: that of the semi-shady or shady plants, and those of the sun.

To keep them a little separated, what is done is to plant shrubs so that, as they grow, they become a natural barrier, a hedge. Said hedge can be formal, that is, receive many pruning so that its sides are almost straight, or on the contrary informal. In this article we are going to focus on the latter, on the informal hedge, since it does not require so much maintenance and, in addition, plants that produce spectacular flowers are used.

What is it?

An informal hedge It is a barrier made up of plants that are allowed to grow a little "at their own pace", so that as the months go by it looks very natural, something that looks great in a garden, especially if it is rustic. With this type of »barriers», unlike the formal hedge, it is not necessary to be so controlling; that is, as the plants have a more natural development, pruning is done very occasionally.

What plants are used?

You can use the same plants that are used for formal hedges, regardless of the type of plant it is (tree, shrub, perennial). But it is true that those that give ornamental flowers are perfect for the informal hedge, such as the ones you can see in this gallery:

What maintenance does it have?

In reality, very little, beyond irrigation. In fact, all you have to do is trim overgrown branches, giving a somewhat strange appearance to the plant. For this we can use pruning scissors if they have lignified or normal ones (such as those to cut flowers) if they are green and thin stems.
