With the arrival of the month of April in the Northern Hemisphere, spring settles in each of the living beings that are there, causing the trees to fill with leaves, the field to turn green and the seeds begin to germinate.

The temperatures are the most suitable. The sun is still mild, so it warms the ground but not excessively; thus, the new generations of vegetables can take their first steps. Would you like to be the one in charge of seeing them born? Find out what to sow in April.

In seedbed

During the month of April you can sow many horticultural plants in seedbed: chard, celery, fruit trees, pumpkin, courgettes, cabbage, lettuce, melons, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes. Use a seed tray, milk jugs, or glasses of yogurt (make a hole so the water can drain) and fill it with substrate for seedlings or for vegetable gardens. If you can't find it, you can use universal growing medium without problems.

When they are about 10cm tall, transfer them to a larger pot or soil.

In the garden

Directly in the orchard you can also plant several vegetables: thistles, parsnips, endives, spinach, Jewish, corn, turnips, potatoes, carrots, beets. Prepare the ground first by removing wild herbs and installing a drip irrigation system so that, in this way, they can germinate more easily and quickly.

April is the quintessential sowing month for ornamentals. The vast majority of plants start their way now. Trees, palms, bulbous trees that bloom in summer (canna, agapanthus, dahlias, amaryllis, begonias), flowers (sunflowers, geraniums, carnations, marigolds), aquatic, carnivorous,… In short, practically any species you can imagine.

As a seedbed you can use pots, planters, glasses of yogurt or milk containers,… The first thing you find 🙂. Of course, it is important that you have at least one hole for drainage and that you fill it with the appropriate substrate (here you have a substrate guide).

Good planting!

      Hello Mauricio.
Japanese maple seeds have to be stratified in the fridge during the winter, and sown in the spring. You have more information here.
      A greeting.
