When and how to plant aromatic plants

Plant your aromatic plants

Who does not have aromatic plants at home or in the garden? They are little plants that, due to their small size and their easy cultivation, are a pleasure to have. So much so, that surely you are considering buying some seeds and thus getting new specimens, right?

Well, if that's the case, prepare the pots and the substrate, and I'll tell you when and how to plant aromatic plants so that you can expand your collection.

When are aromatic plants planted?

Aromatic plants are herbaceous plants that generally do not like hard frosts. In order to grow, they need mild temperatures, especially when young, since that is when they are weakest and most vulnerable. That's why, when you want to sow seeds, the ideal is to wait until spring arrives, or at the latest early summer.

Now, yes, you can also sow them in winter if you have an electric sprouter, or at home you have a source that gives off heat 24 hours a day (like the router, for example).

How are your seeds sown?

To sow the seeds you will only need a seedbed, which can be, as we said before, a pot, or yogurt cups, plastic bottles, planters or milk containers, universal substrate for plants and, of course, a small watering can with rain or no lime You got it? Yes that's how it is, just follow this step by step:

  1. First, fill the seedbed with substrate, completely. In the event that you use containers for edible products, such as yogurt cups, clean them beforehand with water and make a hole in the base to facilitate drainage.
  2. Then, place the seeds on the surface of the substrate. It is important not to put too many in the same seedbed, otherwise they will not grow well. Thus, the ideal is to sow a maximum of 4 in a 10,5cm diameter pot.
  3. Next, cover them with a thin layer of substrate and water.
  4. Finally, insert a label with the name of the plant and the date of planting, and place the seedbed in a very bright area.
