The image is beautiful, right? Tulips have extraordinary flowers, with which you can create such magnificent natural views. There are those that have red flowers, others yellow, others bicolor… there is a great variety to choose from!

But… to be able to enjoy them you have to know when to plant tulips. Let's find out.

Tulips are perennial bulbous plants, that is, they grow from a bulb year after year (as if it were an onion, but smaller), and that once flowered reach a height of about eight to fifty centimeters according to varieties. They are originally from Kazakhstan (located in Central Asia), also reaching southern Europe or North Africa.

They should be planted in early to mid-fall so that they can flower in spring. Its flowers will open towards the middle of the season, about three months after planting, as soon as the risk of frost has been left behind.

Tulips will look great in planters, pots, in the garden, ... anywhere! In addition, if you do not have a balcony or terrace, you can have them indoors, as long as the room where you place them is filled with light. A trick to get a magnificent carpet with elegant flowers is the following: plant the bulbs close together, burying them more or less twice their height, which means that if the bulb has a height of about two centimeters, it should be planted at about 4cm.

As a substrate you can use garden soil or compost. These precious plants they are very adaptable being able to grow in any type of terrain. But, of course, it can be improved by mixing the substrate or soil with perlite, clay pellets, or any other similar material. Although it is not essential, this will prevent the water from remaining flooded for too long, especially if we have potted tulips.
