I love to sow. It is an experience that I never tire of living. Each plant, each seed, is unique. The germination process and subsequent development of the seedling is quite an adventure: you never know what can happen. The fungi are always there, trying to weaken it, so it is very important to do preventive treatments with fungicide from the beginning. Some even bathe the seeds with it before sowing them. All prevention is little when it comes to avoiding fungi.
For this same reason, you must use new seedlings or, failing that, clean (It will be enough to clean them with water and a few drops of dishwasher). In this way, we will ensure that the plant will not have to take any risks.
Y, What substrate to use? Well, it depends a lot on the type of plant. As I do not like to complicate myself or complicate others, I will tell you what I do:
- Universal substrate (they usually have a high percentage of black peat and a little bit of perlite): for flowers, native and horticultural plants.
- Porous substrates (akadama, perlite, kiryuzuna): for non-native trees and shrubs.
- Blond peat: for carnivorous plants. It is important to irrigate with rain or osmosis water to keep the peat acidic.
In general, they will not germinate until spring, but in the event that there is one that does, even if it is a cold-resistant plant, I recommend that protect it either indoors or with transparent plastic. So you can get through the winter without problems.
