Wisteria, a climbing plant for your garden

La Glicina, a climbing plant for your garden

Lately it's just getting my attention climbing plants to be able to place them in our garden or on our terrace, so this time we will talk about the Wisteria or Wisteria sinensis.

El use of Glycine to create floral corridors or galleries, as can be found in many of the gardens found in Florence, is not anecdotal.

Characteristics of Glycine

Characteristics of Glycine

Wisteria is a bushy plant with a strong growth, sometimes even growing in the form of a tree.

It can reach a height of fifteen meters, something that makes it suitable for covering all types of structures (walls, walls, facades ...), being sufficient to place it in a permanent place where it can climb and it will climb up, together with its stems.

Thanks to proper care (good light and food), this plant can live up to one hundred years and surely well cared for will be a plant that passes from parents to children.

Wisteria comes from China and belongs to the legume family. Its leaves consist of seven to thirteen leaflets that die in autumn. Therefore, if you use the Glycine for shading, it will not bother you when the temperatures drop and the cold will not harm it either, so we can say that this plant would enter the chosen circle of those who can appreciate the sun's rays in winter.

Wisteria flowers open at the beginning of spring (before the thickest leaves appear) and will fill the entire space with their scent and it is not to be missed. fantastic hanging flower bouquets that we can get and in colors such as violet, purple or blue (in some variants also white), being a real spectacle, which can be admired until May.

One important thing to consider is that this plant can be somewhat toxic, so if you have small children or pets at home, it is preferable that they do not get too close to the plant, especially younger children, who tend to take everything they catch on the floor to their mouths and if we want to get rid of of a good scare, we will have to walk with a thousand eyes.

Also take special care especially with the pods and seeds, since are dangerous in case of accidental ingestion (for example, abdominal pain, vomiting, or dizziness).

Uses of Glycine

Glycerin (Sinensis) should be grown outdoors and preferably in the ground, because needs a lot of lightApart from that over time it will reach incredible dimensions and this is a plant that has a rapid development and an efficient root system, so it is better to plant it directly in the ground (together with the necessary support) and as far away as possible. of foundations, pipes or pools.

Wisteria cultivation and care

Wisteria cultivation and care

This climbing flowering plant requires a lot of attention and optimal care so you can enjoy healthy and beautiful growth. With these tips, the Glycine requirements are quite easy to meet.

While sunny or bright places with partial shade are the most optimal locations for adult wisteriaYoung plants should be multiplied in the shade at the beginning of their growth phase. To grow, they need a vertical support support, such as a house wall, where they will find their location.

For smaller plants, trellis is recommended until stems are woody and find more stability, just until they are alone on the walls and pillars. When choosing a location, you should be aware that wisteria can quickly reach gutters with its rapid growth, which could cause damage.

You must always keep the height of the regular plant in sight, in order to avoid at some point a possible deviation of the tendrils or to avoid possible damage.

      Hi Sole.

It may be from watering it with lime water. I recommend you water it with a very weak mineralization water (like Bezoya's for example). It is also advisable to pay it with iron chelate (for sale here).

      Regards!

      Hello Rita.

It is very pretty, without a doubt.

If you do not get it in a nursery in your area, you can always look on the Internet 🙂

      Greetings.
