Thus, if you are looking for a really resistant plant, you cannot stop reading this article.

Delosperma characteristics

Our protagonist, whose scientific name is Delosperma cooperi, is a succulent plant native to South Africa. It is part of the botanical family Aizoaceae, and is characterized by reaching a height of no more than 15cm. Its fleshy leaves sprout from hanging or creeping stems (depending on where you are) being able to form a dense lawn with many pink, magenta or vermilion flowers during the spring and especially the summer.

Its growth rate is very fast, so you can buy a specimen and plant it in a pot of about 20-25cm so that that same year it covers it almost completely.

How do you take care of yourself?

If you want to have one or more specimens, here is their care guide:

  • Location: outside, in semi-shade with lots of light or, better yet, in full sun.
  • Substrate or soil: it is not demanding, but it is important that you have good sewer system. A layer of expanded clay balls can be added to the pot before planting to prevent root rot.
  • Irrigation: two or three times a week in summer, and once every 15-20 days the rest of the year.
  • Subscriber: from spring to summer it is necessary to fertilize it with a fertilizer for cacti and succulents following the instructions specified on the package.
  • Planting or transplanting time: in spring. If it is in a pot, it must be changed to a larger one every 1-2 years.
  • Rusticity: withstands cold and frost well down to -10ºC.
