First of all, we are going to talk a little about its characteristics because that way it will be easy for us to identify it when we go to a nursery. Well, this is a genre of highly branched evergreen shrubs native to South Africa growing to a maximum height of two meters. Its bark is brown, lighter or darker depending on the species. They produce linear, green leaves.

It blooms from mid-spring to almost early winter if the weather is mild and warm. The flowers are small, about 7mm in diameter, white or pink.

Main species

The genus is made up of about fifteen species, the following being the best known:

  • coleonema album: reaches two meters in height, and produces white flowers.
  • coleonema pulchrum: reaches a height of between 0,7 and 1,3 meters, and produces white-pink flowers.
  • coleonema pulchellum: known as sky rose or confetti shrub, it is a shrub up to 2 meters long that produces pink flowers.
