Papaya is a tropical shrub that is widely grown in all warm climate regions. It is a very beautiful plant that grows up to two meters which, in addition to having edible fruits, its size and foliage decorate the garden or orchard in an amazing way.

However, when we talk about its needs we will immediately realize that it is a somewhat demanding plant. But we don't have to worry. Next we will explain how to grow papaya.

The papaya, also known as papayo, papayero and whose scientific name is Carica papaya, is a very fast growing plant native to Central America that is grown mainly for its fruit. This is a large ovoid-oblong berry about 10cm long by about 15cm in diameter with a sweet taste. Being low in calories and rich in vitamins A, C and potassium, it is an ideal food to maintain good health.

But What do you need to grow well? Basically a warm weather, no frost. In order not to have any problems, it should be watered very frequently, 4-5 times a week, and planted outside in semi-shade with a minimum temperature of 15ºC.

As to soil, East it has to be fertile, soft, deep and permeable. In the event that we have a land that is not quite adequate, we can grow the papaya in a large pot, about 40cm in diameter or more, with universal growing substrate mixed with 30% perlite.

The ideal time for planting or transplanting is in spring, at which time the plant will be about to resume its growth. After a month, it will be very important to pay it with organic fertilizers, such as guano or manure.

Thus, letting ten more months pass, we can collect its fruits and savor them 🙂.
