La Magnificent parody It is an endemic cactus from Brazil, specifically from Rio Grande do Sul, which has conquered the hearts of millions of cactus-addicts for its shape and color, but also and above all for its beautiful and large yellow flowers.

Our protagonist It is characterized by having a globose body that becomes a bit columnar over time, with a bluish-green color that reaches 12cm in diameter and 90cm in height.. It has between 11 and 15 parallel ribs of up to 5cm. Its edges are covered by a whitish villi, and yellow spines up to 2cm long. It has no central spine.

The flowers are large, up to 5cm in diameter, and emerge from the apex during spring-summer. The fruits are spherical, pink in color and 1cm in diameter. These contain a large number of seeds.

  • Location: it must be placed in a place where there is a lot of light, but not too direct. You have to protect yourself from the intense summer sun, especially if you live in an area with a Mediterranean or arid climate.
  • Soil or substrate: It is not very demanding, but it must have very good sewer system.
  • Irrigation: in general, it should be watered every 3 days in summer and every 5-7 days the rest of the year. During the winter the waterings will be more spaced (every 15-20 days).
  • Subscriber: in spring and summer, with a fertilizer for cactus following the instructions specified on the package, or with Nitrofoska, adding a small spoonful every 15 days.
  • Transplant or planting time: in spring.
  • Multiplication: by seeds in spring. Direct sowing in seedbed.
  • Rusticity: it is sensitive to cold. It can withstand up to -2ºC only if they are very occasional and short-lived frosts, and if the substrate is dry. You need protection against hail.
