Red is a color that draws our attention a lot to humans. It is so intense, so beautiful, and it looks so good anywhere, that having one or more indoor plants with a red flower gives you enormous joy and satisfaction.
But What are the species that give flowers of that color? And what are their cares? Although there are many, below we show you the most interesting, those that, in addition to being easy to find, are very resistant.
Anthurium scherzerianum
Anthurium is one of the most popular indoor plants. It can grow up to 1m in height, although in pot it does not usually exceed 50cm, and its inflorescence sprouts in spring-summer.
It has to be placed in a room where it receives a lot of natural light, but not direct, since otherwise the leaves will burn. It is also important that it is protected from drafts, and that it is watered with water with a low pH, between 4 and 6, between two and three times a week.
Begonia x tuber hybrida
The tuberous Begonia is a tuberculous herbaceous plant that grows to 40cm. It blooms at any time of the year, especially in spring and summer. But for this you need to be in a very bright area, and regular waterings, two to three times a week at most.
Irrigation has to be controlled a lot, avoiding waterlogging at all times, since it would not resist it.
Chrysanthemum morifolium
Chrysanthemum is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches a height of up to 1,5m in habitat, but remains at 40-50cm in pot. Produces a large number of flowers during the fall, and remain open for two to three weeks.
In order for it to grow well, it needs to be in an area where it has a lot of light, and frequent waterings, 2 or 3 times a week.
clivia miniata
Clivia is a perennial herbaceous plant with fleshy roots that reaches a height of 50cm. It is one of the easiest to care for, since resist the cold better than most indoor plants (in fact, it can be grown outside if the temperature does not drop below -4ºC).
It must be placed in a room with plenty of natural light, and it must be watered twice a week. You can enjoy its flowers in summer.
Ixora coccinea
Santa Rita is a herbaceous plant that usually behaves as an annual. It grows to 40cm tall, and blooms during spring. It requires a warm and bright environment, where it is placed in an area protected from direct sun.
It has to be watered about three times a week, using warm rain -or acidified- water.
