Ferns are fantastic plants that have been on Earth even since before the age of the dinosaurs. Today we find a great variety of genera with their species, each one more beautiful and impressive. But the one I'm going to talk about next is so beautiful that you will surely fall in love with it easily: the Peteris.

Origin and characteristics

The peteris, belonging to the botanical genus Pteris, are ferns native to the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. There are a total of 280 species, among which are Pteris cretica, pteris polita o Pteris proliferates. The vast majority of them have linear fronds (leaves), but there are others that have them subpalmated. In any case, they are green (lighter / darker), or variegated (green and yellow, or green and white).

The shortest ones usually reach a height of about 20 centimeters, and the tallest up to almost one meter. Their growth rate is rather medium, which means in their case that they can take an average of 3-5 fronds per year.

What are their cares?

  • Location:
    • Exterior: in semi-shade.
    • Indoor: in a room with natural light and high humidity.
  • Earth:
    • Pot: universal growing substrate mixed with 30% perlite.
    • Garden: fertile, with good drainage.
  • Irrigation: frequent. You have to water every 2 days in summer, and somewhat less the rest of the year.
  • Subscriber: from spring to summer with ecological fertilizers. If it is in a pot, we must use liquid fertilizers following the indications specified on the product packaging.
  • Rusticity: does not stand the cold. If the temperature drops below 0 degrees we will have to protect it.
