Origin and characteristics of Aloe ciliaris

Inflorescence of Aloe ciliaris

Our protagonist It is a climbing plant native to Africa, specifically South Africa, which reaches a height of up to 10 meters. Its leaves are long, 50-150mm in length, green in color. The inflorescences are simple in ascending clusters 150-300mm long, and are formed by red-orange tubular flowers. The fruits are oblong capsules.

Its growth rate is reasonably fast, but this should not worry us: its root system is non-invasive, and during spring and summer we can prune it to make cuttings.

What care do you need?

Aloe ciliaris plant, rustic and pretty

If you dare to have a copy, we recommend that you provide it with the following care:

  • Location: it can be outside in a sunny exhibition, or inside as long as the room is very bright.
  • Soil or substrate: it is not demanding, but it will grow better in those that have good drainage.
  • Irrigation: scarce. During the summer we will water one, or maximum twice a week; during the rest of the year, one every 15 or 20 days will suffice.
  • Subscriber: in spring and summer with fertilizers for cacti and succulents, following the indications specified on the product packaging.
  • Planting or transplanting time: we can plant it in spring, when the risk of frost has passed. If we have it in a pot, we will pass it on to a larger one every 2 years.
  • Multiplication: by seeds, stem cuttings or suckers in spring.
  • Rusticity: it supports the cold well, but frosts below -2ºC seriously harm it.

Enjoy your aloe ciliaris 🙂.
