Decorate your garden with the lily of the valley

convalaria majalis

Bulbous plants are ideal for those who do not have much experience caring for flowers. They are very resistant and, above all, very decorative. In addition, there are so many varieties that sometimes it is very difficult to choose only the ones that we had on the list.

One of the most curious is undoubtedly the Lily of the valley. Its beautiful and elegant bell-shaped flowers will be spectacular in your garden.

Lily of the valley

The lily of the valley, scientifically known by the name of Convallaria majalis, is a bulbous plant belonging to the Liliaceae family. It is native to the Mediterranean countries, where it lives in mountain forests. Its beautiful slightly scented white flowers appear in spring and summer, with autumn being the best time for planting. Its green leaves can get a bit spoiled during the colder months of the year, but don't worry, as you can enjoy its flowers without problems.

To cover both small and medium surfaces it turns out to be an ideal plant. It grows reasonably fast, and does not require much maintenance. Thus, in no time we will have an incredible green carpet.

It is often said, not without reason, that Convallaria is very difficult to grow because, depending on where we live, it can be difficult for us to give it the appropriate conditions so that it can grow. However, the reality is that we only have to plant them in shady areas, and let it settle on its own, helping it a little by watering it every so often to keep the ground fresh.

And if you don't have a garden, you should know that it can also grow in a pot. Mix black peat with perlite at a 7: 3 ratio, and you have lilies of the valley for a long, long time. Yes indeed, it is important that you keep the plant away from small children and pets, since all its parts are toxic.

Otherwise, it will surely give you great satisfaction .

I think this plant is precious and I would like to know if it can be planted in humid areas like Galicia -in the Rías Baixas-, or better off I forget about it. I have read that it needs humidity but I don't know if what we have here will be too much.
