Many vegetables eaten daily offer the opportunity to grow at home, taking advantage of seeds that can be obtained from fruits bought at the grocery store or supermarket.

Caution, as it may happen that when you open a Bell pepper, you find little or no seed. In this case, it is a hybrid varietyTherefore, the few grains obtained will not be used to produce other plants.

To guarantee a good result, it is advisable to extract the group of seeds from a fresh and healthy fruit and let it dry in a ventilated place already room temperature for three days, otherwise it will almost certainly rot when buried.

Meanwhile, it will be possible to appreciate how the seed bouquet shrinks and loses moisture until it becomes very dry, yet another way to dry pepper seeds is separate them from the membrane that contains them and place them on kitchen paper so that they lose moisture over time.

In both cases, it is advisable to carry out a simple test to check whether the resulting seeds will be used for the production of new plants and for that, some seeds are randomly selected and placed between two sheets of paper moistened after put in a warm place for a few days to see if they germinate or not and if the first case occurs, it means that the seeds are viable.

Thus, small grains can be stored until the best planting season or planted directly in a hotbed in a shady place.

Usually in each hole three seeds of the bell pepper are buried and are covered with soil enriched with organic matter. Once germinated, it is necessary to wait until the small plants have four real leaves or are about 10 centimeters long before transplant them into a pot which will be filled with a rich and well-drained substrate, taking care not to damage its roots or the stem during this operation.

It is important to remember that peppers prefer sunny areas, so it is better to place them in a place where they will receive at least six hours of sun exposure per day and as the plant grows, they should place stakes to help carry the weight of the plant, especially when its fruits appear (normally you can get three peppers per plant).

It is also important maintain soil moisture, subjecting it to regular watering but avoiding puddles, hence the importance of drain the substrate. For this it is advised prepare the pot with river sand to avoid unnecessary accumulation of water.

The harvest can start 12 weeks after transplant of the bell pepper in the pot, removing the rest and cutting it cleanly with a sharp knife, leaving about 2 centimeters of stem.

For newcomers, I advise you save time and ensure success, buying seedlings, plants in a nursery or in a garden center, since in the towns there is always a stall for sale.

This saves us a lot of time and assures us less problems, being the easiest job, you can't imagine how good you feel when you get your first harvest, is better than psychotherapy with Freud himself.

For get our own seeds of a bell pepper, for example, there would simply be to remove the seeds from the fruit, then put them on kitchen paper in a kitchen cupboard, since humidity and sun are natural enemies for our seeds, so that after a week they are dry enough to keep in a glass jar in a dark place.

    Question;
    Can all peppers give seeds suitable for sowing?
    I know that some peppers do not give seeds because they are hybrids, as you taught us in this article, but they told me that there are some peppers that have 4 points and are male and that they give seeds that do not reproduce fruits. Is that so? or is it just a lame comment?
    ANSWER URGENT.

      Hello Hector.

      Those with 4 tips are female, while those with 3 or less are males. The former have many seeds, but their flavor is somewhat sweeter. Those seeds can be sown and will germinate without problem.

      Regards!
