Day Flower (Tigridia)

Tigridia flowers

The bulbous and similar are plants that produce very cheerful flowers, but they tend to be short-lived. In fact, there is one that is known as day flower precisely because of that, because it is only enjoyed for a few hours.

Fortunately, it produces many during its season, so at first it could be an inconvenience, in the end it turns out that it is not so much. 🙂 Here we tell you how to take care of it.

Belonging to the genus Tigridia, which is made up of 35 species distributed between Chile and Mexico, they are plants that have a corm (it is an apparatus of the plant that has fibers and vessels where it stores nutrients that will allow it to stay alive in cold times). The best known is the Tigridia Pavonia, known as tiger flower.

Its leaves sprout towards the end of winter / beginning of spring, and are linear-lanceolate, green in color. Flowers appear from mid spring / early summer, and they are of very different colors: pink, red, orange, yellow.

What are their cares?
