In nature there are plants of all kinds, which can be broadly classified into two groups: in one we have conventional ones, that is, those with roots that are responsible for absorbing nutrients from the soil, and in the other we have those who have developed traps to catch insects. And we could still classify them better; in fact, in this last group we find the giant carnivorous plants.

Although "giant" is a word that can create confusion, since there is no species of carnivore that exceeds the height of an average person, but there are those that need a lot of space to grow. Here we show you the most popular.

We will find this curious carnivorous plant in Sabah (Borneo), where it is endemic. It is a kind of Nepenthes, n.rajah, and it is undoubtedly one of those that deserves to be on this list. Why? Because the normal thing is that the plants of this genus produce traps of about 5, 10, perhaps 20cm, but it is that!this »young lady» can produce up to 41cm!

Of Sarracenias there are several species, specifically, about twelve approximately, and that not to mention hybrids and cultivars. But if we focus only on natural species, the S.leucophylla is one of the largest, since their pitchers-trap can reach a height of up to almost 1 meter. The best? The best thing is that its cultivation is very simple, as we indicate in this link.

Dioneas are known by the name Venus flytrap, and are widely sold in nurseries… but only the small-trap variety. The reality is that in recent times they have been creating very interesting cultivars, such as Dionaea cv Giant Peach. Their traps are still small, but compared to the common ones, they are quite large: they can measure between 3 and 4 cm.

And by the way, they are also easy to care for. Click here and you can discover it for yourself 🙂.

What do you think of these giant carnivorous plants? Do you know of others?
