Greenovia are very decorative non-cacti succulents or succulents and, in addition, very easy to care for. So much so that you can have them both outside and inside your home in a very bright room.

As if that were not enough, it adapts very well to living in pots, especially those that are wider than tall. And, because of their size, they are ideal for creating compositions. Would you like to know them better? 

What are the Greenovia like?

Our protagonists are herbaceous plants native to the Canary Islands where they grow at altitudes of 150 to 2300 meters above sea level in volcanic terrain. They can also be found in Madeira, Morocco, and East Africa. Its succulent leaves form rosettes which close in times of water scarcity. Its flowers are yellow and sprout in spring.

Although it may seem otherwise, they have a stem; very short yes, but high enough so that its leaves can grow well. They are related to the genus Aeonium.

What care do you need?

  • Location: full sun or semi-shade. Indoors it has to be in a room with plenty of natural light.
  • Soil or substrate: it is not very demanding, but it is necessary that it has good drainage to avoid rotting of the roots.
  • Irrigation: twice a week in summer, and every 7-10 days the rest of the year. It is advisable to use rainwater or lime-free. If you can't get it, fill a bucket with water and let it sit overnight.
  • Planting or transplanting time: in spring, when the risk of frost has passed. If you have it in a pot, you have to transplant it to a larger one about 3cm every two years.
  • Fertilizer: in spring and summer it must be paid with a fertilizer for cacti and other succulents following the instructions specified on the package.
  • Rusticity: supports up to -2ºC, but needs protection against hail.
