Sowing the sweet pea seeds
These plants reproduce with extraordinary rapidity by seeds. But when and how are they sown? Actually, they can be sown at any time of the year, but it is better to do it in early spring, since it does not resist the cold very well and the more time it has to grow, the healthier it will flourish and the more we can enjoy it 😉. So, once we have decided on the day, we have to prepare the things that we are going to need so that the plants get off to a good start, which in this case will be a pot, universal growing medium and a watering can with water.
Now you have to follow this step by step:
- Fill the pot with substrate, to the top.
- Arrange the seeds so that they are separated. Put a maximum of 2 in each one.
- Cover them with a little substrate, just enough so that they are not visible.
- Give them a generous watering.
- And finally, place them in an area where the light hits them directly.
From then on, you will have to keep the substrate moist so that, in just one week, they begin to germinate.
Sweet pea care
Once they are 10cm tall, you can move them to larger pots or the garden. In either case, it will be highly advisable put a stake for them or put them near a lattice or arch so they can climb it. They can be very good if they are put with other plants, such as shrubs for example, since they are not invasive.
It is very important to pay with organic fertilizers, such as worm castings or horse manure, adding a handful each month. In this way, you will ensure that your plant will not lack for anything.
