There are some fruit trees that are very worthwhile, since in addition to producing delicious fruits they have a high ornamental value. One of them is the Khaki Diospyros. La rosewood fruit, which is one of the common names apart from persimmon or kaki, is delicious. It has a sweet but pleasant taste. Plus, it has very interesting properties.
What are their characteristics?
The fruit of the rosewood or persimmon it's a berry with the chalice (the leaflets, formerly belonging to the base of the flower) persistent. Similar in size to apples, its skin is very thin and its pulp -the fleshy part- soft or hard depending on whether it is an astringent variety, that is, it finishes maturing on the tree, or not. In the latter case, it will finish maturing after harvest, placing it in a pot with a glass of brandy, brandy or cazalla for a couple of days.
When is it harvested?
Many of us -including myself- would love to be able to taste them throughout the year, but unfortunately that is not possible (not if what we are interested in is trying a persimmon or rosewood cared for in the natural way, that is, respecting their cycles). And, its fruits will be ready to be harvested during fall and into winter / early spring.
What uses does it have?
Culinary
It is an exquisite dessert. In addition, with it jams, sorbets, custards, cakes, puddings, or refreshing drinks are made. It is high in vitamins A and C, as well as potassium, sugar, and glucose.
Medicinal
Its consumption is recommended for decrease the risk of cancer, cataracts, cardiovascular problems, and also to treat diarrhea and colitis.
