Cacti are such inexpensive and beautiful succulents, it is not uncommon for many of us to have them indoors. However, we have to bear in mind that, unless we have a room in which a lot of natural light enters, its growth and development is not going to be as good as it should be.
So that unforeseen problems or surprises do not arise that we cannot solve, I will explain below how to care for an indoor cactus.
A cactus is a plant that grows in America, in the desert. In this place the insolation is very strong and the maximum temperature is very high, so much so that we might think that, when we grow it in a milder climate, it will have more facilities to grow, which is true. But details that we cannot modify, and one of those is the lighting. So that i can be alright it is very important that it is located in an interior patio or in a room with windows through which the sun's rays enter, since otherwise it will etiolate (that is, it will grow towards the direction of the light, weakening).
Another very important issue is irrigation. This is a task that must be carried out with care when growing a cactus indoors or in offices, as the probability of its roots rotting is very high. So that, We recommend watering it once a week in summer and every 20-25 days the rest of the year. If we have a plate underneath, we will remove it ten minutes after watering.
From spring to the end of summer we must pay it with a liquid fertilizer for cactus following the indications specified on the product packaging. So we may see it blossom soon. But beware, it will be of little or nothing to pay it if you don't we transplanted to a larger pot with universal substrate mixed with perlite in equal parts every 2 years.
With these tips, we will surely be able to enjoy our cactus for a long time.
Okay, but how often does it have to be watered?
Hello Osiris.
The important thing is to let the substrate dry between waterings. But anyway, as we indicated in the article, we recommend watering it once a week in summer and every 20-25 days the rest of the year.
