Not sure how to graft cactus? Then you have come to the right place. Follow the step by step to make your own grafts.

Myrtilocactus geometrizans

The grafting technique is carried out mainly during spring and summer, since in autumn the cacti stop their growth and, therefore, it would not go well for us. To do so, you only need to choose a columnar cactusand Myrtilocactus geometrizans or Echinopsis pachanoi, to act as a rootstock. Once you have it, make a vertical cut down (in the upper half) and let the wound heal for a week.

After that time, it is time to join the thorny plant you want with the rootstock. How? Very simple: to the graft, that is, to the plant that is going to be attached, you have to make a cut, also vertical, thus removing the roots.

Now put the two plants together. So that there is a better chance of success, the use of graft tapes is recommended, which will make the wound heal better and both cacti are well welded. And ready! Put your new plant in a place protected from direct sun, and you will see how in a couple of weeks you will be able to know how it has gone.

By grafting cactus you can get plants with amazing shapes and colors, like the one you see in the image above. Gymnocalicium have a great tendency to change their colors due to the loss of chlorophyll when they are used as grafts, something that undoubtedly draws a lot of attention.
