How to make the Christmas cactus bloom

Take care of your Christmas cactus so that it blooms

Winter is coming and your Christmas Cactus shows no signs of wanting to bloom? That is one more reason to be concerned. When that happens, we always have to stop and think what we are doing wrong: whether we water excessively or, on the contrary, we let the substrate remain dry for too long or if we do not fertilize it correctly, it will not water its wonderful petals.

Taking care of this succulent is not difficult, but it is true that sometimes it can surprise us for the worse. To avoid it, I will explain to you how to make the Christmas cactus bloom.

Orange Flowering Christmas Cactus, An Easy-Care Plant

So your Christmas cactus can bloom you need the following:

  • Being in a bright location but without direct sun.
  • No more than 2 waterings per week during autumn-winter and no more than 3 per week the rest of the year.
  • A supply of liquid fertilizer from the beginning of spring until after flowering (more or less, it would be about the month of January in the northern hemisphere).
  • And a pot change every 2-3 years.

Now, how to take care of it correctly? Very easy. We will start by explaining irrigation. The irrigation of this plant has to be, as we mentioned, rather scarce. An excess of humidity rots the roots and, consequently, also the cactus. You should not put a plate under it, although if you put it, we have to remember to remove the water that has been left over ten minutes after watering. Equally, It is very important to pay it with liquid cactus fertilizers, always being the indications specified on the product packaging so that it has enough energy to flourish.

In addition, a pot change will be necessary every couple of yearsWell, even if it is a slow-growing succulent, there comes a time when the roots cannot continue their development as they have occupied the entire container. This pot has to be about 3-4cm wider and have some holes for water drainage. We will fill it with universal cultivation substrate mixed with perlite in equal parts, and once the Christmas Cactus is planted we will not water until after a week.

With all these tips, your plant will surely flourish in no time.

Hello, I really do not know what to do, they say that they do not need so much light that they are low light and that they do not have to be in the cold. I would like to know if I can have it outside or inside the interior although it is darker and if you left it outside but under a pergola I need your advice and what can you tell me about it. ✌?

      Hi Patricia.

It is a plant that needs light, but not directly. That is, it cannot give it the sun directly, because it would burn.
Therefore, it is interesting to have it inside the house, because it adapts reasonably well to living there. But if you can have it outside, for example under the shade of a tree or a large plant, it will be fine.

      Greetings.
