Hyacinths are one of the most popular bulbous plants: their beautiful flowers grouped in inflorescences give off a very pleasant aroma during spring. In addition, they can be grown in small pots, which makes them interesting plants to decorate both the home and the patio.

Hyacinths are bulbous that belong to the botanical genus Hyacinthus and to the Liliaceae family. They are native to the Balkans and Asia Minor, and grow to a height of 25 centimeters. The thick spike-shaped inflorescence that it produces during spring is very characteristic, with numerous small white, blue, purple, lilac or pink flowers.
If we take this into account, it can become a magnificent plant if we grow it either in groups with other hyacinths, or with other bulbous plants that grow more or less to about the same height, like tulips.
To take care of them, they do not need much, although like all plants, they also have their preferences, which are the following:
- Location: whether it is outside or inside, it must be in a bright area.
- Soil or substrate: it is not very demanding, but it is important that it has good drainage to avoid the risk of rotting. In the case that it is kept in a pot, it is highly recommended to mix black peat with perlite in equal parts.
- Irrigation- Watering frequency will vary depending on weather and location, but generally should be watered about twice a week.
- Subscriber: during the flowering season it is recommended to fertilize with a fertilizer for bulbous plants following the indications specified on the packaging.
- Bulb planting time: in autumn. You have to leave a separation distance of about 10cm between them.
