Our protagonist is an evergreen shrub native to southwestern Australia whose scientific name is Anigozanthos flavidus. It is popularly known as kangaroo legs. It is characterized by reach a height of up to 1 meter, with tapered, erect 0,2m wide leaves that arise from an underground rhizome, which measures about 0,5m in diameter.

Blooms in summer. The flowers are tubular and velvety, yellow and green, red, pink, orange or brown in color. These arise in clusters. One specimen can produce more than 350 flowers on up to 10 stems.
