Our protagonist is a megaforbia, that is, a giant, rhizomatous herb, native to Australasia known as the Malaysian banana or red banana. It reaches a height of up to 7 meters, with a pseudo-trunk about 30cm thick. The leaves are whole, lanceolate, 3 meters long by 60cm wide, and break easily.

Its flowers are grouped in almost horizontal inflorescences, with pubescent peduncle and rachis. The fruit is a false berry with a linear or falcate shape that measures 8-13cm long and up to 3cm in diameter., and with the white pulp of sweet flavor.

It is of great economic importance, since it is one of the progenitors of the commercial banana, along with the Balbisian muse.
