As every year, a friend and I like to order planting on the Internet, but we also enjoy visiting nurseries like children, especially when they are in charge of bringing things that not only we love, but in addition to that, we would be able to buy several copies.
This time, the undisputed protagonists of the list of plants have been bromeliads. Each of us is making a small collection, only this time we could not resist the tropical ones. I show them to you 🙂.
x Neophytum lymanii 'Burgundy Hill'
This is a very, very rare bromeliad hybrid that reaches a height of about 40 centimeters. It is made up of linear blood-red leaves, and it hardly has a trunk. It needs spaced waterings and can be grown in full sun.
Vriesea 'Red Chestnut'
This is a classic gem, probably one of the most popular among bromeliad lovers. It is formed by a rosette of leaves that, as it grows older, acquires its pattern formed by white stripes. Reaches a height of about 30cm and it has to be protected from direct sun.
Vriesea hieroglyphica
In English it is known as »King of the bromeliads» which in Spanish means »Queen of the bromeliads». It is an endemic plant of Brazil that can reach a height of 0,90m. It must be in semi-shade, and receive a maximum of two weekly irrigations.
Vriesea saundersii f. mini
This precious species is native to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). It is formed by a rosette of very beautiful leathery leaves. Reaches a height of about 35-40cm. Due to its slow growth rate, it can be used as a terrarium plant during its first years of life.
vriesea splendens
This species is, perhaps, the best known to all. Medium-grown specimens are often seen for sale as houseplants. It is known as 'Indian Feather' and is native to tropical America. Reaches a height of up to 60cm and, due to its origin, it needs protection from direct sun.
Which of these bromeliads did you like the most?
