Origin and characteristics
Our protagonist it is an evergreen shrub endemic to the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria whose scientific name is Pterocephalus dumetorum. Its common name is rosalillo de cumbre, and it is a plant that reaches a maximum height of 2 meters (the normal is 1m). It branches a lot, something that gives your glass a dense look. The leaves are lanceolate to ovate, and pubescent.
The flowers appear from late spring to early summer. They measure 3-4cm and are pinkish-purple in color.
What are their cares?
If you want to have a specimen in your yard or garden, we recommend providing the following care:
- Location: put your rosebush on the top outside, in full sun.
- Earth:
- Pot: universal growing substrate mixed with perlite in equal parts.
- Garden: it is indifferent as long as it has good drainage. It does not tolerate waterlogging.
- Irrigation: 2-3 times a week in summer, but less during the rest of the seasons.
- Subscriber: from the beginning of spring to the end of summer / beginning of autumn it is advisable to pay it with ecological fertilizers. In case of having it in a pot, liquid fertilizers should be used so that the water drainage does not worsen, something that could harm the roots.
- Multiplication: by seeds in spring. Direct sowing in hotbed.
- Rusticity: withstands cold and weak frosts down to -2ºC. In case of living in a colder area, it should be protected either with greenhouse plastic and anti-frost mesh, or inside the home.
