The preferred water of all plants is that of rain. It is the one that has the right amount of minerals that helps them grow, and perform all their vital functions. Now, if you live like me in a climate where rainfall is very scarce, or if it is concentrated only in a few months ... what do we do? Well, the solution is to collect rainwater whenever possible, either in buckets or 5l plastic bottles. However, the liters we collect will not be enough for the whole year, so we have to resort to tap water, to that of osmosis o distilled.
Tap water
El tap water It has better or worse quality depending on the autonomous community in which we are located. In general, those where the rainfall is high, the quality will be reasonably better than in those areas where the climate is drier. So as not to have to complicate us a lot, It will be enough to know if the water that comes out of the house tap is drinkable, in which case we can use it to water practically all plants, except carnivorous ones.
If, on the other hand, we have a water with a lot of lime, we can do two things:
- Fill for example a bucket with water, and let it rest for one night.
- Lower the pH by adding a few drops of lemon or vinegar (approximately 30ml) per liter of water.
This water will be very useful to irrigate those considered acidophilic (Japanese maples, azaleas, hydrangeas, etc.).
Distilled and osmosis water

It is important to note that the distillate has practically no mineral, so if you choose to water the flowers or trees with it, you have to pay them periodically so that they do not lack anything.
