The garden can also have color, since even if it is a specific corner to grow our own food, that does not mean that you cannot have plants destined for other purposes. One of the ones that I am going to recommend is the ornamental cabbage. You may think that cabbage is eaten, and it is true, but the one that I am going to show you now is cultivated more for the beautiful colors of its leaves.

This little plant is ideal, not only to have in the garden, but also to have in a pot. Its height does not exceed 30cm and it is very easy to grow, as much or more than the cabbage that is planted for human consumption. In scientific terms it is known as brassica oleracea, and is native to Asia Minor reaching the Mediterranean.
Although in origin it is a perennial herbaceous plant, it is considered an annual plant since is sensitive to intense frosts. Even so, if you live in a climate whose winters are extreme, you can have it indoors by decorating a room that has a lot of light.
Irrigation must be frequent, preventing the substrate from drying out between waterings. Being a very adaptable plant, it can grow in any type of garden soil, but it will appreciate that we fertilize it periodically with a slow-release organic fertilizer (such as worm castings).
If you want to have your own ornamental cabbages, get a seed packet that you will find in any nursery or garden store, and sow them during spring-summer. They will generally germinate in a matter of ten days if the temperatures are around 15 or 20 degrees.
