Beyond the Christmas ornament, Euphorbia pulcherrima, It is a living being. Did you know that pulcherrima means the cutest?

Symptoms of problems or diseases

  • Leaves with yellow edges: Excess heat and lack of humidity. Keep it away from heat sources, always keep it below 25º, place the pot on a plate with water and stones, so that the roots do not get wet, spray its green leaves (not the red ones) with water at room temperature.
  • Fall of leaves before the end of January: Cold, drafts or lack of natural light. Remember that its ideal temperature is 22º during the day and 16º at night. It is not advisable for it to rise above 25º or fall below 10º.
  • Withered leaves that end up falling: Too much or too little water. The substrate should dry out between waterings, but not too much. It simply shouldn't be damp to hand. Depending on the humidity, you will need between 1 and 2 irrigations a week.
  • Yellow sheets: Iron deficiency.
  • Little black bumps on the leaves (They may be on the back). Rust. Remove the leaves that present the stains and apply treatment against this fungus (Consult the most common fungi in the urban garden)
  • Rotten stems: Another fungus, Pythium, may be attacking her. Eliminate rotten stems, apply a treatment against it and watch over watering.
  • Silver spots on the sheets. Remove the leaves and move the Poinsettia away from your other plants. Viruses have no treatment.
  • Rot gray in color and gray hairy spots on leaves and / or stems, it is like a gray mold: Bortritis. Eliminate the infected parts, monitor excess watering or spraying, place the plant in a ventilated place without drafts and apply a specific treatment.

        Hi Ana,
I have a doubt, my Christmas plant was full of fungi generated by white mosquitoes, I did the water and garlic remedy I have applied it twice, and clean its leaves with that, the leaves are falling, but the stem is super green I don't know what else to do to revitalize it, I've also changed the soil, and I don't know how often to water it. or what to do I am quite worried, if its stem is green it is a good indication.

I thank you for guiding me to save him.
        Thank you very much!

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hi Esther!
What kind of bug is it? If it is only one, you can remove it by hand, or by spraying water with an infusion of garlic, or with Neem oil.
      A greeting.

        Hi Hilda.
From what you count, it has whiteflies. Here you have remedies to treat it.

I have two good nights, ill patients have white spots, which is the best remedy to remove those spots, could you please tell me? Thank you.

  7.   Monica Sanchez said

    Hey.

fenshuialmeria: these insects may be whiteflies. Treat them with potassium soap, and you'll see how you can solve the problem 🙂.

Candy: how often do you water it? It is important to avoid overwatering, as it does not tolerate waterlogging. And in winter you have to protect them from frost, especially the first year.

Adriana: she may have fungus. Spray the plants with a broad spectrum fungicide, following the directions specified on the package.

    A greeting.

Hi Monica, my poinsettias got some white spots or the leaves are green, what do you recommend I do to remove those spots and they are beautiful for Christmas

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello, Marina.
White spots usually appear from overwatering. They cannot be removed, but it is possible to prevent the fungus from affecting the entire plant and it is as follows: in 4 liters of water, add a small tablespoon (of coffee) of baking soda, and stir so that it mixes well. Then fill a spray bottle with the solution, and spray the plant.
It is also important to water a little less, 2 times a week.
      A greeting.

my good night has white spots, what could I do to remove them?

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hi Wendy.
Have you looked to see if, in addition to white spots, it has little black spots? If so, you probably have thrips, which are killed by Chlorpyrifos.
Otherwise, upload an image to tinypic or imageshack, copy the link here and I'll tell you.
      A greeting.

Hello. My Poinsettias are turning from red to black. What can I make to fall or so that they do not continue to stain.

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello lucero.
You have to know that the red leaves are actually bracts, that is, false petals. Over time they wither and fall.
The leaves themselves, the green ones, can also fall if the temperature is cool (15ºC or lower), but they come out again in spring.

To do? For now, protect them from the cold, in a very bright room without drafts. And water once a week or every ten days with warm water. You can also add a small spoonful of Nitrofoska every 15 days.

      A greeting.

    Hola!
    A greeting!

I recently bought two good nights (Easter) and two days ago I planted them in a pot, the next day the petals appeared with irregular purple and gray circles, but only on the petals, they seem like you want to dry the part where those spots are purple ... do not have black spots.
    Green leaves are fine.
I placed them indoors at room temperature, I think that when it rains it might splash them ... Could that be the cause?

    Thank you very much.

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hi Yessi.
If it is cold in your area, yes, that is probably the cause. Or if you spray it, you can also cause those spots.
I recommend keeping it indoors, in a bright room without drafts, and not spraying 🙂
      A greeting.

Hello, I have 2 poinsettias, they were infested with ants, one is dry but the other still has a green trunk. I have had it planted in the garden for 3 years, and they have always been beautiful, the leaves began to fall and the small shoots they had were small and curled. My husband pruned one to try and it's the one that's dry. We add Fairy mixed with water to the other ... if you give me a remedy for ants, I will appreciate it.

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Juana.
Have you looked if it has aphids? Ants usually appear when there is already an infestation of aphids.
For ants you can treat the plant with natural lemon juice. It is very effective.
      A greeting.

Hi! I have a beautiful poinsettia bought this Christmas, it was healthy until a few days ago when these spots appeared and it is not clear to me if it is a virus or something else. I have roses, orange trees and other plants and I am afraid of their contagion, but I am sorry to remove the Easter. I attach the photo in this link

    Thanks in advance!

      Hi Patricia.
They look like mushrooms. Have you ever watered it overhead?
I recommend treating it with a fungicide to eliminate fungi.

Hello, I have a pot with 5 Poinsettias but the leaves are staining white, one has already dried completely. What will it be? What I can do?

        1.    Monica Sanchez said

          Hi, Leticia.

Do you spray / spray them with tap water? I ask you because if the water has a lot of lime, it may be that those white spots are because of that, because of the lime.
My advice to do so is to stop spraying them with water, and wait.

In the case of not that, perhaps they are mushrooms. You could treat them with fungicide.

If you want, send a photo to our Facebook and so we can help you better.

          Greetings.

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Marialuisa.
Where are you from? They may be getting cold. If so, I would recommend protecting them a little, for example with anti-frost fabric.

Hello, my poinsettia leaves are rolling up. What I can do?

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hi Elsa.
Have you checked if it has any plagues? If so, you can remove it with a swab from the ears soaked in pharmacy alcohol.
If you don't have anything, you might be cold.
      A greeting.

Good afternoon, I have a poinsettia and some red leaves are like fading in areas, leaving white spots. Other than that the leaves are getting really dry and falling off. I have it inside. The earth has white spots for a few days as well. You know that it may be due?

        1.    Monica Sanchez said

          Hello Ruth.
Do you know the water you use to irrigate if it has a lot of lime? It is because what you say could be that it was harming him.

When do you have it? Are you in a bright room? If you are indoors, it is important that you stay away from drafts, both cold and warm, and put yourself in a place where there is good (natural) light, otherwise your leaves will lose color.

In addition, it must be watered only when the soil is dry, that is, once every 7-10 days if it is autumn / winter and it is inside the house.

If you have questions, contact us.

          Greetings.

Hi, my poinsettia has centipedes, how did you get rid of them? Thank you

    1.    Monica Sanchez said

      Hello Maribel.
You can treat the plant (and the soil) with a universal spray insecticide. In any case, it is best to catch the centipede and take it to the garden or to a field, as it is very beneficial by aerating the soil (something that favors plant growth).
      A greeting.
